Radical Openness is a treatment program designed based in DBT principles that helps individuals with "overcontrolled" coping styles. When someone is "overcontrolled" they tend to feel anxious or depressed because of their perfectionistic tendencies, need to be right, and difficulties with perspectives that do not agree with their own.
RO-DBT teaches skills such as self enquiry, that allow for flexibility in coping and openness to new information. It alleviates symptoms by helping clients feel less rigid in their thinking. It also helps with strengthening relationships through teaching compassion, self-compassion and social openness.
